This evening concert of our upcoming 3rd Annual Bells of the Cascades Handbell Festival will feature massed handbell choirs from the Portland and Southwest Washington regions directed by clinician Alex Guebert.

It’s a great opportunity to hear handbells in a big way! In addition, Bells of the Cascades, directed by Matthew Compton, will also perform a piece or two, which means you can hear us outside of our usual concert series performances.

Open to the public, with admission at whatever amount you’d like to donate!

Alex Guebert is a composer, arranger, percussionist, music director, and music teacher who lives in Orange, California. He is currently the director of Cathedral Bells, a community advanced-level handbell ensemble based out of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Orange. His compositions and arrangements have been performed nationwide and overseas. He even directed his own setting of a Hungarian folk song for 5-octave handbells at various venues in Hungary. In the past four years he has won two handbell composition contests, for his pieces “Duel!” and “Out of the Silent Planet.” Alex has an M.M. in Music Composition from Cal State Long Beach, where his graduate recital featured a 25-minute work for handbells, strings, and percussion. He is passionate about sharing his percussion background with the handbell world. He has taught several percussion and mallet technique classes at handbell events nationwide. Alex currently teaches music classes at three schools in the area, and spends most of his free time composing and arranging music, and bicycling all over Southern California.
